Sketch, written and directed by Vijay Chandar after Vaalu, is a colourful mass entertainer. This Pongal season is now bright with one of the best mass movies of the industry and everyone is happy to see Chiyaan Vikram again in a mass avatar. With the powerful acting from the much talented Vikram and wonderful songs and thrashing BGM the movie gives a complete entertainment on the big screen. The unexpected climax twist and the relatable social messages talk a lot to the audience and thanks to Vijay Chandar for such a good entertainer to make this Pongal season being sketched.
Vikram plays Jiiva aka Sketch, who is the right hand man of a local loan shark, who finances for cars and bikes. When people don’t pay interest on time, it’s Jiiva’s job to seize their vehicles and he wouldn’t stop till the job gets done. However, things take an unexpected turn when he’s given the responsibility of seizing a vintage Fiat car of gangster Kumar, but it doesn’t pan out the way he anticipates. Vikram’s screen presence is completely in a different level swag, everything he does in the film is just ultimate. Tamannaah as Amuthavalli has a limited screen space and her role hasn’t been developed in a proper manner. Baburaj plays the role of the main antagonist and he has done a good job by presenting a villain with a different style. Sriman gets to play a meaty role and he pulls it off with ease. Hareesh Peradi as Seth is impressive. Similar is the case of RK Suresh. Soori does evoke a few laughter.
Vijay Chandar’s script is decent though it’s quite regular. The way he has shaped up the mass scenes are lovely and hits the bulls-eye. Few macho portions that pushes heroism have come out really well. Thaman’s songs are pretty good and his melodies give a pleasant feeling. His background music elevates Vikram’s charisma and the main theme is so exhilarating. M.Sukumar’s camera work is nice, he has shown Vikram in a great admiring manner. Ruben’s editing is fine, certain transformation cuts are quite impressive. Do not miss Sketch in theaters because it will satisfy all those who would love to have a celebration time in the theatres.
