Thaanaa Serndha Koottam narrates the story of a team pretending as CBI officers that conducts raids on fraudulent politicians and businessmen while robbing black money. As they peacefully lead their lives while also planning next raids, enters a special officer appointed to nab the Gang. The rest is told with the help of superb humour and in a much more related way for the audience. Surya looks fresh and energetic in a role that recaps us of his earlier days. It’s refreshing to see Surya comes out of his ‘serious’ image to carry a role which is accessible to everyone, go for it! Right from his intro scene to the Sodakku to sportively accepting sarcastic comments from other characters to the climax ‘Aambala Singam’ moment, Surya is in top form! After Ayan, he is very convincing again in the ‘angry young man’ space.
Keerthy Suresh looked gorgeous as an orthodox Brahmin girl. Comparing to the original Hindi version Vignesh Shivan has given more screen space to the female lead in Thaanaa Serndha Koottam, her combination scenes with Surya are enjoyable! She looks good and is apt as the traditional girl. Ramya krishnan added good support. She is far better than recent actresses. She has acted really well and her screen presence is another major highlight. Senthil’s comedy worked out well. Karthik & Suresh Chandra Menon are the perfect villains.
Thaanaa Serndha Koottam has so many high points that you will watch the entire film with a smile. It has a well Packaged Story with an engaging Screen play. Vignesh Shivan Deserves a lot. His signature climax is the best treat for all and Vignesh Sivan Continues to soar, entertain and enthral the audience with clever storytelling. It is easily the best work of Anirudh in recent times and the director Vignesh Sivan has fully utilized the composer’s potential. The songs are received with booming applause in theatre. Dinesh Krishnan’s Cinematography is top notch and A Sreekar Prasad makes the perfect cuts. There’s never a dull moment, the emotional quotient is strong, and the societal content is relevant. Do not miss this gang on the big screen for the sake of the social content, laughs and more than that the return of vintage Surya.
