Vimanam, starring Prithviraj in the lead role as Venkidi whose dream is to fly an aircraft made by him, is getting excellent reports from everywhere. The movie is based on the life of Saji Thomas from Thodupuzha, who is deaf but has successfully fulfilled that dream of Venkidi in real life. He speaks through his gestures. He was stunned after watching the movie on big screen at Thodupzha. With his gestures he conveyed his reaction through gestures to his wife Maria that “I’m so happy. It’s beyond my expectations. A heartfelt movie.” Saji has acted also in the movie as a mechanic along with Prithviraj’s character Venkidi. The movie is written and directed by Pradeep M Nair and produced by Listin Stephen under the banner Magic Frames. Maria says that the movie has given them both happiness and sadness because the movie has portrayed the real life of Saji from a different point of view.
It was in 2009 that Saji began his works on his own aircraft. The whole aircraft was made by him and it had the expense of mere 13 lakhs which is comparatively very less than such aircrafts from reputed companies. Finally, when his aircraft, which he christened Saji-X-Air-S was ready, there was no place or personnel to fly it. They contacted a retired air force wing commander, SKJ Nair, who had a private flying yard in Manimuttar near Ambasamudram in Tamil Nadu on 10 April, 2014. He has found a place in Limca Book Of India Records for this success from a Differently Abled One. His life was documented on Discovery channel along with 9 others who did such amazing things. He is currently working on the making of a pilot-less aircraft which can be controlled by a remote.
